Tagalog News: Sustainable aqua culture, techno demo farm itatayo sa Puerto Princesa

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Peb. 29 (PIA) -- Magtatayo ang pamahalaang panlungsod ng isang sustainable aqua culture at techno demo farm sa Barangay Tagburos upang makatulong sa mga mangingisda ng lungsod.

Ayon kay Konsehal Luis Marcaida II, malaki ang maitutulong ng proyekto sa pagpaparami ng mga laman-dagat tulad ng iba’t-ibang uri ng isda, shellfish at mga halamang dagat na direktang kinukonsumo ng mga tao. Maliban rito, makakatulong rin ang proyekto upang magkaroon ng trabaho at pagkakakitaan ang mga residente sa lugar.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Peb. 15 (PIA) -- Mahigit 156 na pares ang pinag-isang dibdib sa kasalang bayang idinaos ng pamahalaang panlunsod ng Puerto Princesa at ng City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Ang kasalang bayan ay isa lamang sa mga aktibidad na nakapaloob sa ‘Love Affair with Nature’ ng Puerto Princesa. Isa itong programang naglalayong pangalagaan ang kalikasan.

Palawan authorities on alert vs illegal protected species trade

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, January 5 (PIA) -- A box containing 26.5 kilos of meat of Philippine pangolin or anteater locally known as “balintong” was confiscated Wednesday by PNP- Aviation Security personnel.

Only a few days ago, boxes of anteater scales and turtle scutes were seized at the same airport in this city.

The two incidents rang alarm bells on alleged rampant illegal trade of protected species in the province.

Palawan fishery sector set to enhance aquaculture in 2012

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, January 4 (PIA) -- The fishery division of the provincial government will enhance its aquaculture program, particularly on seaweeds production, to generate more income for local cultivators and fishermen this 2012.

Dr. Romeo Cabungcal, provincial fishery officer, said the division is working on the long-term sustainability as well as economic prosperity of the stakeholders in the aquaculture sector, especially seaweeds producers.

First medical waste treatment plant in the region to open in January

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Dec. 24 (PIA) -- The first medical waste treatment plant in the region will soon be operationalized in January completing the facilities that will enhance Puerto Princesa City’s compliance to environmental laws on waste management.

The waste treatment facility, a joint venture between the city government and the Cebu-based Pollution Abatement Systems Specialist Inc. (PASSI) conforms with Republic Act 6969 or the “Toxic Substance and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Act of 1990” and Republic Act No. 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.”

Rare minerals discovered in Puerto Princesa Underground River

Scientists recently found rare minerals in the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in Palawan, according to a report on dzBB radio this Thursday, adding to the site's prestige as a recent addition to the 7 New Wonders of Nature.

According to Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn, "serrabrancaite" or manganese phosphate is not usually found in regular caves: other than in Palawan, the only other known deposits are in Sierra Branca, Brazil.

P.Cayetano to lead 70-km.ride to promote environmental awareness

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Jan.24 (PIA) -- Senator Pia S. Cayetano will lead around 200 bikers from Puerto Princesa City to the municipality of Aborlan in Palawan on Saturday, January 29, to promote healthy living, women empowerment, and care for the environment at the 10th staging of "Bike for Hope."
Known for using sports such as biking, running, and triathlons to bring her advocacies to communities across the country, Cayetano started Bike for Hope in 2004 in memory of her father, the late Senator Companero Rene Cayetano, who died from complications of liver ailment in 2003.

PCA Palawan distributes 29,800 bags of salt fertilizer

Puerto Princesa City (4 August) -- The Philippine Coconut Authority in Palawan has already distributed 29,800 bags of salt fertilizers to coconut farmers in the province and Puerto Princesa City released in three batches in 2010.
From 2008 to present, farmers in Palawan and Puerto Princesa City have been fertilizing approximately 11,400 hectares with salt benefitting about 5,500 coconut farmers.
