This, after a year of being declared finalist in the internationally-launched New 7 Wonders of Nature, and being included in the “provisionary” list since January 2012.

Polishing the plaque in preparation for the Philippines

The Official New7Wonders of Nature Inauguration ceremonies for the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) will take place in the Philippines at the weekend. A highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the commemorative plaque on Sunday at the PPUR site on the island province of Palawan.

Manila/Philippines, Zurich/Switzerland: Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) is now confirmed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature. Making the announcement in Manila, Bernard Weber, Founder-President of New7Wonders, congratulated the people of the Philippines for supporting their national finalist in the global campaign.

Palawan Underground River officially one of the 7 New Wonders of Nature

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- The Puerto Princesa Underground River or the PPUR is now the second official winner of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

The confirmation of PPUR was made by Bernard Weber, President of the New 7 Wonders Foundation in a press conference held recently at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Weber said that the participation of President Benigno S. Aquino III in the campaign and promotion for PPUR made a big difference for the country’s official entry to the global search.

Filipinos fly flag in South China Sea

PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan - For the few dozen Filipinos living on a remote speck of land in the South China Sea, each day is a battle against loneliness but also a love affair with nature.
Contact with the outside world is limited and comforts are few for the residents of "Freedom" town, which exists mainly to raise the Philippine flag and fend off the other claimants to the Spratly islands.
